Bellator women's featherweight champion Cris Cyborg sent a heartfelt message to Sinead Kavanagh after knocking her out in their recent title bout at Bellator 271.
Cris Cyborg successfully defended her title against Sinead Kavanagh in the main event of Bellator 271 this past Friday. As expected, the fight did not las long and the reigning champ finished her opponent via KO in the very first round.
After the fight, Cybor heaped praise on Kavanagh and confessed that “KO” is “one of the toughest” opponents she has crossed paths with in her entire MMA career.
“Thank you @sineadkavanagh0 for sharing the @BellatorMMA cage with me! You’ve earned my respect as one of the toughest women I’ve ever met!,” Cyborg wrote on Twitter.
It is yet to be known who Cyborg will face next but a rematch with Kavanagh seems unlikely to happen at this point. Among the early favorites to become Cyborg's next challenger is her fellow former UFC fighter Cat Zingano.
As it stands, Cyborg has now won five straight fights, four under the Bellator banner. The Brazilian has added Kavanagh in her collection of stunning victories, having beaten Leslie Smith, Arlene Blencowe, and Julia Budd prior.
Kavanagh, on the other hand, is still one of the most coveted fighters in Bellator. Before losing to Cyborg, she was coming off back-to-back wins and has won two of her last three fights via KO/TKO. It was also the first time the Irish fighter was stopped in a fight barring the doctor’s stoppage due to severe cut against Janay Harding in 2018.
