Capcom is continuing their weapon showcase series for Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak as new trailers are being released periodically throughout the week. Today, four different weapon trailers featuring the Great Sword, Insect Glaive, Hammer, and Hunting Horn were released, and all of them feature one or two new silkbind or weapon moves that hunters will soon have at their disposal.

In this trailer for the Great Sword, the hunter is seen fighting against Zinogre, the Lighting Wolf. The first silkbind skill used in the demonstration is called “Stronarm Stance” with allows players to use their wirebug to absorb enemy attacks, then retaliate with a stronger attack. Along with the new silkbind skill, a new weapon skill called “Surge Slash Combo” is also introduced which switched out the traditional charged slash combo with more wild swings that are much faster than usual. Considering the slow and bulky nature of Great Swords, being able to perform faster attack swings could allow for more aggressive and in-your-face playstyles than ever before.

For the Hammer trailer, the hunter is seen hunting a Rathian, one of the earliest monsters introduced in the series. The first new silkbind skill introduced is called the “Impact Burst”. With a similar animation to Hunting Horn's spin attack (Echo Attack in Monster Hunter World: Iceborn or Infernal Melody in Monster Hunter Rise), the hunter spins their hammer on the ground, causing multiple hits of impact damage to any enemy close by, as well as adding shockwaves to charged attacks for added KO damage. The trailer also introduces the Spinning Bludgeon Charge, which lets hunters perform a unique multi swing charged attack that can unload a ton of damage in a short amount of time.

The insect glaive received some very unique additions in this trailer. As the hunter battles against Rathalos, the flagship monster in the entire series, the hunter uses a new silkbind skill called “Awakened Kinset Attack”, where the hunter throws their Kinsect at the monster, then darts forward towards where the kinsect lands on the monster to deal massive damage. This silkbind move looks very similar to the “Magnetic Field Approach” move that was unique to the Magnet Spike weapon, which was exclusive to Monster Hunter Frontier Online. Along with the new silkbind skill, the hunter also performs a new Kinsect Slash attack, where the hunter places their kinsect on the tip of their glaive while darting forward and attacking enemies while keeping themselves airborne.

Lastly, the Hunting Horn was showcased in their latest trailer. While fighting against a Tigrex, the hunter introduces the new Silkbind skill “Silkbind Shockwave”, where the hunter flips back while attacking the monster, and for a short period of time, gains a buff that grants extra hits to any attack performed against enemies, which is very much the same as the Impact Press skill that hammer users can use. Both the hammer and hunting horn now seem to share very similar skills and attacks with each other, and while the new attacks for the hunting horn look great, a handful of long time hunting horn users (such as myself) feel that the hunting horn may be losing some of its identity as an offensive/support hybrid weapon. One can only hope that more methodical skills and attacks will be included in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak so that long-time hunting horn users will feel more right at home.
