The Washington Nationals are fighting hard to make up some ground in the National League East and are said to be potential buyers with the MLB trade deadline around the corner. While Max Scherzer's name has floated around trade circles, it seems unlikely that they deal him, especially after they were hit with some bad news regarding pitcher Stephen Strasburg.

According to Maria Torres of The Athletic, Strasburg suffered a setback and the Nationals are now trying to see where to go from here.

That certainly doesn't sound good for Strasburg and the Nationals have to be concerned. The talented pitcher hasn't appeared in a game since June 1 against the Atlanta Braves, when he went just 1.1 innings and gave up a run. Ever since he has been absent, and there is now a high possibility that he is out for the remainder of the season.

Strasburg pitched just two games in the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season as well, so the Nationals definitely haven't been getting their money worth for him.

When healthy, Strasburg is one of the best pitchers in the majors. Now the Nationals will go back to the drawing board and try and acquire some pitching help to put next to Max Scherzer.
