NBA legend Detlef Schrempf predicts Pistons to reach Finals; Anthony Davis to win MVP
Most NBA fans have already made their predictions on which player and what team will succeed in the upcoming season. Now, NBA legend Detlef Schrempf gives his picks as to which team will most likely make it to the conference finals and who will win the league MVP award.
“NBA Basketball is going to be really exciting (laughs),” Shrempf said when asked about his 2019-20 predicitions.
“Okay this is really difficult. I’m going to go wild and say it is going to be Detroit in the finals from the East. How about that? Western Conference finals is going to be between Portland Trail Blazers and LA Clippers. And the MVP is going to be Anthony Davis.”
Schrempf made a pretty interesting matchup for his picks in the West. The Los Angeles Clippers are the favorites to win the NBA title this year after successfully acquiring Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in the offseason. Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers are coming off a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2018-19, but they met the Golden State Warriors and got swept.
However, his pick to represent the East in the NBA Finals will probably raise some eyebrows. The Detroit Pistons are definitely an improved team after signing Derrick Rose, but they are not as stacked as teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Of course, the Pistons will be a competitive team and they will probably reach the playoffs, but making it all the way to the Finals? Detroit will have to be extremely good in order to take out Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid’s squads.
Lastly, Schrempf’s pick to win the MVP is pretty good. Anthony Davis is one of the best players in the league right now, and he’s expected to be the focal point of the Los Angeles Lakers’ offense. He could very well be one of the top names who will be competing for NBA MVP honors this season.
