Former Louisville coach Rick Pitino has hired prominent NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus with an aim to become a potential coaching candidate in the NBA, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

“I just want to be a part of an organization,” Pitino told ESPN. “I want to develop young players. I want to be part of a team. I miss it terribly. I'm using this time to really study the NBA. If something opens up with a young basketball team, I'd have deep interest in it.”

Rick Pitino, 66, got his first NBA head coaching job in 1987 with the New York Knicks. It was a brief two-year stint for Pitino, who was only 36 years old that time. In 1997, the Boston Celtics hired him for the top coaching job. Pitino coached the Celtics for four years. Overall, Pitino has a 192-220 record as an NBA coach.

Pitino also singled out youth and player development as his focal points in entering the league.

“I think the league is going to get younger and player development will become even more important to every organization. That's my forte. I believe I can help an organization find a pathway to success.”

Pitino has spent most of his coaching career developing young players, with a good amount of success. Pitino led Kentucky and Louisville to successful championship runs in 1996 and 2013, respectively.

However, Pitino has also been embroiled in scandal in his career, and he was ultimately fired by Louisville in 2017 amid the federal college basketball investigation. The Cardinals had their 2013 NCAA title vacated due to the program's transgressions under Pitino.

Rick Pitino was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
