With the 2019-20 NBA Finals currently in full swing, it was actually the WNBA that kicked things off in a big way on Tuesday evening. With Jewell Loyd and the Seattle Storm defeating the Las Vegas Aces en route to winning this year's WNBA title in impressive fashion, the veteran guard wasted absolutely no time in dedicating her team's latest championship to some very special people.
In addition to paying tribute to Breonna Taylor, as the WNBA has made a point to do all season long, Loyd also gave a shout out to Los Angeles Lakers legendary shooting guard Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gigi Bryant.
Bryant and his daughter were killed in a tragic helicopter accident earlier this year while Gigi notably had WNBA aspirations of her own.
With the WNBA, Storm, and Loyd taking a moment to honor the late Bryant, his former team in the heralded Lakers is also looking to cap off the 2019-20 campaign with a title. On Tuesday evening down in Orlando, the Lakers will be taking on the Miami Heat as the two sides continue to battle it out in the NBA Finals. Entering Tuesday's Game 4 clash in the “NBA bubble,” the Lakers will be sporting a 2-1 series lead over the Heat, who won Game 3 and will be looking to even things up sooner rather than later.
If the Lakers are ultimately victorious on Tuesday evening against the Heat, Los Angeles will be just one win away from yet another title — one that will no doubt be dedicated to the longtime NBA great.
