Former NBA player Lamar Odom has had a rough life, to say the least.

After being traded away by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011, he had brief stints with the Dallas Mavericks, L.A. Clippers, New York Knicks, and Laboral Kutxa Baskonia, a Spanish League team, before completely leaving the game of basketball.

After that, he has had several run-ins with the law, which includes instances of substance abuse, drugs, and alcoholism. The former Sixth Man of the Year winner hit rock bottom on October 15 due to a drug overdose. According to Odom, he attempted to end his own life during that time.

This is truly a devastating tale for any human being, but at least it seems like there is a happy ending.

Since that incident, he had reportedly undergone rehabilitation and cleaned his act up.

This return to basketball has helped give him a new lease on life, as seen by his most recent Instagram post.

“I was not delivered into this world in defeat nor does failure flow through my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion and I refuse to talk, walk, to merge with the sheep. I will not hear those who weep and complain for their thoughts are contagios. Let them join the sheep. The slaughterhouse of failure…Is not my destiny.” #keephusslin #china

Odom has even started to work out and looks to be in good shape.
