The Portland Trail Blazers will take on the Houston Rockets on Friday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Trail Blazers-Rockets prediction and pick.

Both of these teams have had a rough time to start the season. Portland has been one of the streakiest teams in the league so far, as they went through a stretch of losing three games, then winning two, and then losing another two. This is a big opportunity for the Blazers to get back on track with a win, as the one-win Rockets aren't exactly a tough opponent. Houston hasn't won a basketball game in a full three weeks, so it's fair to say that this season has been a struggle for the rebuilding Rockets. A win here would go a long way towards building up this team's confidence.

Why The Trail Blazers Can Cover The Spread

The best part of this Portland team has clearly been the offense. The Trail Blazers currently average just over 110 points per game, good for ninth-best in the NBA. Portland also ranks seventh in the league in effective field goal percentage while ranking eighth in the league in field goals made per game. Superstar point guard Damian Lillard is leading his team to another great offensive season, and that should continue in this matchup. The Rockets have been one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA, as they rank inside the bottom ten in the league in effective  field goal percentage allowed and points per game allowed.

Injuries will also play a factor in this game. Kevin Porter Jr., one of the key ballhandlers for the Rockets, is questionable for this contest. Missing him would deal a significant blow to this Rockets offense that already struggles to consistently create shots. Meanwhile, it's likely that the Trail Blazers enter this game at full strength.

Why The Rockets Can Cover The Spread

Houston may have a 1-10 record on the year, but their numbers against the spread aren't nearly as bad. The Rockets are currently .500 when it comes to covering, showing that the bookmakers have done a good job accounting for the talent difference that is evident in most Rockets games. The Blazers haven't been great covering the spread as favorites, proven by their losing record in that category. Even more importantly, Portland has been horrendous at covering on the road. The Trail Blazers have played six away games this season, and they have failed to cover in every single one of them.

Despite their solid offensive numbers, the Blazers have some weaknesses that Houston can exploit. Portland isn't a very good defensive team, ranking just above the Rockets in most defensive categories. The Rockets have been decent on offense, so it's not hard to see Houston keeping pace with the Trail Blazers in this one.

Final Trail Blazers-Rockets Prediction & Pick
