Why The Cavaliers Could Cover The Spread

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a solid start to the year. They started off extremely strong, but injuries and COVID eventually slowed them down. Cleveland seems to be back on track and ready to make a run. Through the first half of the season, they have managed to win 27 games and lose only 18. The Cavs are currently on a five-game win streak with their most recent victory coming against the Brooklyn Nets by seven. While Brooklyn may have been without KD, both Harden and Kyrie played in that game. If the Cavs can mimic that performance on Monday they could extend their win streak to six.

Cleveland put in an all-around solid performance against Brooklyn. The Cavs edged out the Nets across most statistics. The starkest contrast was in free throw shooting, as Cleveland went 19 for 21 from the line while Brooklyn only made 13 of 18 attempts. Additionally, the Cavs win was a result of a team effort. Six of Cleveland's players scored in the double digits, including Kevin Love who has been productive off the bench. If Cleveland is able to replicate this performance on Wednesday, then they could come out ahead in another tough matchup.

Like every team in the league, Cleveland is dealing with injuries and COVID absences. The Cavs currently have four players listed on their injury report. All four of those players are listed as out for Wednesday's game. While this is tough for Cleveland, none of the injured players are recent scratches and so they are already used to playing without them. Expect the Cavs to come into this game ready for battle and ready to extend their win streak. Cleveland is a great team and this matchup with Chicago will prove to be a challenge that they need to rise up for.

Why The Bulls Could Cover The Spread

The Chicago Bulls have been one of the best teams in the NBA this year. Through the first half of the season, they have managed to win 27 games and lose only 15. While the Bulls have been a strong team, they have been struggling recently. Chicago is currently on a four-game losing streak. Their most recent defeat came at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies by 13. The Bulls have been hit hard recently by injuries and lacking some of their best players has certainly taken its toll. If Chicago wants to turn things around on Wednesday they will need their team to step things up. The Bulls are still capable of winning this game, but it will prove to be an uphill battle.

The Bulls actually put up a solid performance against the Grizzlies, but Memphis just outperformed them. Both teams took 92 shots in that match and while Chicago made 40, Memphis made 47. One of the biggest discrepancies was shot quality and points in the paint. The Bulls only had 38 points in the paint compared to 64 from Memphis. If the Bulls want to take down Cleveland they need to be taking better shots.

The biggest thing standing in Chicago's way is not the Cleveland Cavaliers. Rather, injuries and unavailable players. The Bulls may be the team suffering the most right now with injuries. Chicago currently has seven players listed on their injury report. Of those seven players, only Alex Caruso and Tyler Cook are likely to play on Wednesday. The unavailable include two of the Bulls' best players in  Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball. The return of Caruso is a nice step forward, however, it is hardly enough to compensate for the rest of the roster. Wednesday's game should be interesting.

Final Cavaliers-Bulls Prediction & Pick

This is an easy decision. While the Bulls are a good team, they remain crippled by injuries. The return of Caruso is a nice step forward, but overcoming the absence of both Lonzo and LaVine will prove to be extremely difficult. The Cavaliers are healthy and hot right now and there is no reason they shouldn't win this game. Cleveland has won their last five and it is looking like their win streak will extend to six on Wednesday. Pick Cleveland to win and cover.

FINAL CAVALIERS-BULLS PICK:  Cleveland Cavaliers -3 (-110)
