Why The Cavaliers Can Cover The Spread
The Cavaliers will likely need starting point guard Darius Garland, who is questionable with an ankle injury, to play in this game if they want to pull off the upset. Garland took the reins of the team last season, and appears to have a very bright future in the league. Still, 10 points is a lot and the Cavaliers have a lot of capable NBA players. Cleveland should be able to stay within reach of the spread Monday night, especially if Garland returns to the lineup. If he does not return, they will lean heavy on Ricky Rubio and Collin Sexton, who were both big contributors in their win over the Hawks Saturday. Sexton averages 20.7 PPG on 52% shooting so far this season. Rookie Evan Mobley and big man Jarrett Allen will look to slow down Jokic and give Cleveland a chance to win this game.

The Nuggets have a clear edge in this spot, and it (as always) starts with Jokic in Denver. The 2020-21 NBA MVP is averaging 29.5 PPG on a ridiculous 66% shooting to go with his 14.5 rebounds per game. The Nuggets look like one of the best teams in the West this season, as Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon, Will Barton and others have picked up the slack while Jamal Murray continues to work his way back from the torn ACL he suffered last season. The Nuggets are a solid bet to cover tonight, as they are in their home building and have a significant talent/depth advantage.
