Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread

The Atlanta Hawks have been having a mixed season. While their record suggests that they are a dead even team, they have actually suffered some very disappointing defeats. The Hawks have lost their last two games by only a single possession. They are coming off a 3 point loss to the Charlotte Hornets in a game that had a combined score total of  257. In the game prior they loss by 2 to the Philadelphia 76ers. This Hawks team has been very competitive, yet they have struggled to close out games. They will look to change that on Monday and steal a win on the road.

Leading the Atlanta Hawks is Trae Young. Ice Trae has quickly become one of the league’s best scorers and offensive talents. In their loss to Charlotte, Trae had 25 points and 15 assists. He can score from anywhere on the court and constantly keeps this Hawks team in games. On the season he is averaging over 26 points and 9 assists a game. If the Wolves want to win this game they will need to contain Trae Young. Young elevates the level of play of his teammates and creates a ton of offense for the Hawks. Expect him to have a big night on Monday.

Another big part of this Hawks team is John Collins. Collins helps balance out Atlanta and gives them a serious presence down low. In their loss to the Hornets, Collins had 31 points and 12 rebounds. The Hawks big man has the ability to dominate and he will be put to the test on Monday. The Wolves definitely have some big man talent so that match up is one to watch. If Collins can prevail it’s likely that the Hawks will too.

Why The Timberwolves Could Cover The Spread

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been pretty solid this season. They may have a losing record, but they have been a very competitive team. Minnesota is coming off a 5 point loss to a tough Brooklyn Nets team. This loss should not discourage Timberwolves fans, yet it should provide them with optimism. It’s still very early in the season and if Minnesota can start figuring stuff out they could be relevant towards the end of the season. That all starts with this game on Monday. If Minnesota can get a win over the Hawks they will be one game away from a winning record, and one step closer to a winning season.

Leading the way for the Timberwolves is Karl Anthony Towns. KAT is one of the best all around big men in the league. He is a legitimate scoring threat from anywhere on the court and he has the ability to dominate the boards. KAT missed Minnesota’s last game and is questionable for Monday’s match up. If he plays he will have a tremendous impact on the outcome of this game. If he doesn’t play, the Timberwolves will have to look elsewhere for leadership.

One bright spot for Minnesota has been the profound development of Anthony Edwards. Ant man has managed to improve on his impressive rookie season. In their loss to Brooklyn he struggled and only scored 19, but the sophomore will look to turn things around on Monday. On the season he is averaging 22 points, 6 rebounds, and nearly 2 steals a game. Anthony Edwards has emerged as one of the faces of this Timberwolves team and will try and improve on an already impressive season.

Final Hawks-Timberwolves Prediction & Pick

This should be a really good game. The Hawks are a tough team and they have ability to go off on any given night. Minnesota is injured, but has proven that they can still battle against the top competition. It could really go either way. However, the Hawks come into this game as underdogs against a team that could potentially be playing without two of their best plays. Even against a fully healthy Timberwolves team the Hawks would still have a shot of getting a win. With that said, pick Atlanta to cover and get ready for a fun competitive game.

FINAL HAWKS-TIMBERWOLVES PICK: Atlanta Hawks +2.5 (-110)
