The Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards will play in an Eastern Conference matchup on Thursday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Hawks-Wizards prediction and pick.

The Hawks and Wizards are set for a division battle on Thursday night in what will be the their first meeting of the young season. Trae Young has led the Hawks to a 3-1 record through four games, while the Wizards are also 3-1 and look improved with the additions of Spencer Dinwiddie, Montrezl Harrell and others. Atlanta comes in as the better, deeper team, and that depth might come into play as both teams played on the road Wednesday night before traveling to Washington. Each team will look to move to 4-1 on the season in this Thursday night division contest.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the Hawks-Wizards odds for this Thursday matchup.

NBA Odds: Hawks-Wizards Odds

Atlanta Hawks -3 (-110), -152 ML

Washington Wizards +3 (-110), +128 ML

Why The Hawks Can Cover The Spread

The Hawks haven't look great yet offensively in 2021-22, but they are finding ways to win. A big reason for that is their defense, as they have yet to allow more than 104 points in a game this season. Young has been in control of the Atlanta offense, to no surprise, averaging 26.5 points and 9.3 assists through four games. Each side may look to rest veterans on the second night of this back to back, but then again they also may not do that. Injury reports for these teams won't come out until later in the day due to the back-to-back, so be sure to keep an eye out for that as sometimes some surprises can pop up last minute on a back-to-back injury report. If the Hawks have most of their key guys (namely Young), they should be in good shape for a cover and win on Thursday night vs. the Wizards.

The Wizards look improved, but it is still early. Injuries are beginning to pile up a bit for Washington, as Rui Hachimura, Daniel Gafford, Raul Neto and Cassius Winston all seem likely to miss Thursday's contest vs. Atlanta. Combine that with the fact that all of their healthy rotation players played last night, and Washington might be on heavy legs this evening. The Hawks meanwhile run 10 deep, and didn't play their second unit a ton of minutes in the win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, so they may be in a position to use their depth to their advantage against the Wizards. If the Wizards are going to win on Thursday, they will need to find their legs early and avoid falling into a hole vs. a better and deeper Atlanta roster.

Final Hawks-Wizards Prediction & Pick

The Hawks are the more talented and deeper group, as discussed, so take them to cover the small spread in Washington on Thursday. The Wizards are banged up and may be running lower on bodies than one would like to see so early in a new season.
