These two teams have had somewhat different starts to the season. The Miami Heat are one of the top teams in the league and are coming off back-to-back wins. While the Washington Wizards have been struggling and have only won one of their last eight games. This should be an interesting matchup between two teams having very different seasons.

Miami Heat: -6 (-106)

Washington Wizards: +6 (-114)

Over: 206.5 (-110)

Under: 206.5 (-110)

Why The Heat Could Cover The Spread

The Miami Heat have had an impressive year so far. Like every team, they have had to deal with injuries and COVID absences, however, they have managed to handle it better than most. Through their first 54 games, the Heat have secured 34 wins and only 20 losses. Miami will look to continue their success on Monday as they face a vulnerable Wizards team. The Heat should come out ahead in this match, but they can't underestimate Washington. The Wizards have pulled off some sneaky upsets this season, and if Miami comes in unprepared they may just come up short.

The Heat are fresh off an 18 point victory over the Charlotte Hornets. While many may have predicted a Miami victory, few would have predicted Heat domination. Perhaps the most impressive thing about that victory wasn't Miami's margin of victory, but their ability to hold the Charlotte offense to only 86 points. This is what makes the Heat so dangerous. In their win over San Antonio, Miami held the Spurs to only 95 points. Very rarely do teams in today's NBA score fewer than 100 points, but Miami has managed to hold their opponents to less than 100 in back to back performances. If the Heat's defense can do that again, then the Wizards will likely struggle throughout.

Perhaps the only thing standing in Miami's ways is injuries. When the Heat are healthy they are one of the top teams in the league, however that is a big condition. Miami currently has seven players listed on their injury report. Four of those players, including Jimmy Butler, are listed as questionable for this game. The status of these players could have an impact on the outcome, so it is important to take that into consideration. If most of the roster shows up, the Heat should be able to notch another victory.

Why The Wizards Could Cover The Spread

The Washington Wizards have been all over the place this season. While they started off strong, they have since struggled immensely. The Wizards have looked like a shell of themselves and continue to lose games. Through their first 52 games, they only have 24 wins and 28 losses. Their most recent defeat came against the Phoenix Suns by 15. Washington only scored 80 points in that match and did not look like a team that was ready to make a late-season push. The Wizards face another tough opponent in the Miami Heat and will need to step things up if they hope to win.

It seemed like the Wizards just lacked a game plan going into their match against Phoenix. No player on the Wizards played 30+ minutes, and no player scored more than 15 points. It seems like Washington has been leaning heavily on Kyle Kuzma to come up with the bulk of the offense, and even when he does so they still come up short. In their match against the Bucks, Kuz put up 25 and the Wizards still lost by 14. Against the Grizzlies Kuzma had 30 and they lost by 20. Washington needs someone else to step up if they want to win games. Relying on Kuz has been a poor strategy, because even when he has a good night the team still comes up short.

One of the biggest roadblocks for this Washington team has been Bradley Beal's injury. It has become extremely apparent how much the Wizards rely on their star guard to create offense and keep them in games. Beal remains out for this contest along with Daniel Gafford. The Wizards will likely continue to struggle offensively.

Final Heat-Wizards Prediction & Pick

The spread may be a bit wide on this one given all the uncertainty around many Heat players status' for this matchup. However, it still seems like Miami should have an edge here. The Wizards have lost three of their last four by 14+ points, and it's looking like this game could just add to that list. The Heat have been very good lately and even with the potential injuries, should end up on top here. Pick Miami to win and cover.
