Why The Hornets Could Cover The Spread

The Charlotte Hornets have looked competitive and beaten some top opponents, but injuries and adversity have led them to come up short in many games. Through their first 62 games, they have a losing record of 30-32. Their most recent loss came against the Detroit Pistons in overtime by one. That defeat was devastating for Charlotte who shouldn't have even been in OT against the Pistons. The Hornets will look to bounce back against a tough opponent on Monday. While they are capable of winning this game, it will certainly be an uphill battle.

The loss to Detroit is difficult to explain. Charlotte's roster was intact and they played solid basketball, but the Pistons just matched up and exceeded their level of play. This Hornets roster is very solid and after some trades they have added depth and are looking to make a run in the playoffs. Terry Rozier and Miles Bridges were the headliners in their game against Detroit. They both played for over 40 minutes and scored 29 points and 33 points respectively. If the Hornets are going to compete against the Bucks they will need to step things up. They need other teammates to pick up the slack and fill in the gaps.

Injuries were once a great concern for this Hornets team, but it seems that they are at least over that hump. Currently, Charlotte has three players listed on their injury report, two of which are listed as out, with only Nick Daniels being questionable for the match. The Hornets have more than enough talent and skill, it's just a matter of stepping up to the plate.

Why The Bucks Could Cover The Spread

The Milwaukee Bucks have had an underwhelming season. While they have performed decently, the expectations on the reigning NBA champs were much higher. Through their first 61 games they have secured a record of 36-25. While they have had their ups and downs this season, they have come out on top. They have only played one game since the break and that was on Saturday against the Nets. Milwaukee was defeated by three against a crippled Brooklyn team. What was a winnable game for the Bucks turned into an impressive victory for the Nets. Milwaukee will look to bounce back against a struggling Hornets team on Monday.

The recent struggles from Milwaukee come from a lack of depth. The Bucks starters all put in solid performances, but when bench players are called up they come up short. Milwaukee's bench had a combined 13 points against the Nets. It's impressive that the Bucks were able to keep the game so close given the lackluster performance of their bench. The Bucks have a lot of talent up front in Giannis, Khris Middleton, and the rest of their starters, but they need their second unit to pick up the slack.

While injuries have affected this team, for the most part they have their roster available for Monday. Currently, the Bucks have three players listed on their injury report, all of which are out for Monday's match. George Hill, Brook Lopez, and Pat Connaughton all add significant depth to this team and their absences will continue to be felt. However, the Bucks have enough talent to overcome this and come out on top. If they come in ready on Monday they could easily defend their home court and secure the win.

Final Hornets-Bucks Prediction & Pick

This is an interesting one. Given the wide spread, this pick is by no means easy. The Hornets have a good team, and while they have been struggling, they are still competitive. The Bucks are probably better, but they couldn't even take down a crippled Brooklyn team. Given all of this, and especially because of the wide spread, pick the Hornets to cover.
