These two teams have had somewhat similar seasons so far. The New Orleans Pelicans have had their struggles, but have come out of the break strong, securing two consecutive wins. While the Sacramento Kings have also been underwhelming, but are coming off a dominant win. This should be an interesting match between two middle-of-the-pack teams.

Why The Kings Could Cover The Spread

The Sacramento Kings have not had a very good season. While they have faced adversity in the form of injuries, they have also just lacked competitiveness. Through their first 63 games, they have a record of 23-40. Their most recent victory came over the OKC Thunder, one of the few teams the Kings have a better record than. The Kings demolished OKC, winning by 21. This was Sacramento’s first win after the break, and they will look to carry that same energy and momentum into a tough match on Wednesday. The Pelicans have been gaining momentum, and if the Kings want to compete they will need to up their game.

The Kings dominated the second half of their last game. The game was tied at halftime, but Sacramento ran away with it in the third and fourth quarters. They outscored the Thunder by 9 in the third and 12 in the fourth. Six out of the nine players for Sacramento put up double-digit scoring in that match. When the Kings are all contributing, they can actually put together a solid game. They will need to mimic this performance on Wednesday if they hope to turn one victory into another.

Luckily for the Kings, they are nearly full health. Currently, Sacramento has only two players on their injury report. Richaun Holmes is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game with a lingering back injury. Having a healthy team is the first step in long-term success in the NBA. While it is often overlooked, the fact that Sacramento will basically be able to field a fully healthy roster is a huge gain for the team.

Why The Pelicans Could Cover The Spread

The New Orleans Pelicans have had a very disappointing team. For a team with somewhat high expectations, they have just fallen flat. While they are not fully to blame, as they have had to deal with numerous injuries and absences, they have still struggled. Through their first 61 games, they have a record of 25-36. However, after some trades and the all-star break this Pelicans team has gained some speed. New Orleans is coming off back-to-back wins against tough opponents. Their most recent victory came over the Los Angeles Lakers by 28. New Orleans will look to build on their recent success and add another win to their record.

New Orleans dominated every aspect of the game against LA. They outscored the Lakers in all but the fourth quarter after the game was already decided. The Pels scoring was evenly distributed among the players, and everyone contributed. In the game prior, they managed to beat the Phoenix Suns by 15. They put up a similar performance, outscoring Phoenix in three out of four quarters. These recent performances from New Orleans are impressive, and the Kings are a significant downgrade in competition. With their recent successes and momentum, this Pelicans team looks poised for another win.

One of the biggest reasons this team has struggled this season is because of injuries. Currently, New Orleans has only three players listed on their injury report, none of which will be available on Wednesday. However, none of those injuries are recent and the Pelicans have most of their roster intact. After their recent trades and additions, this Pelicans team has been looking strong. CJ McCollum has provided them with a burst of offense, and Brandon Ingram is finally regaining some confidence. Everything seems to be going this team’s way and that could easily continue on Wednesday.

Final Kings-Pelicans Prediction & Pick

This is a pretty easy pick. The Kings did just score a dominant victory over OKC, however, there is a big difference between the Thunder and the Pelicans. New Orleans seems like a new team, they look revitalized after the break and are ready to start making a playoff push. Sacramento, on the other hand, has little motivation to succeed and doesn’t have as bright of a future. Given all of this, pick the Pelicans to win and cover.

Final Kings-Pelicans Pick: New Orleans Pelicans -6 (-110)

FINAL KINGS-PELICANS SCORE PREDICTION: Pelicans 118 – Kings 107
