The Miami Heat host the New York Knicks on Wednesday night! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Knicks-Heat prediction and pick.

The Knicks are not playing very well right now. They are currently (23-25) on the season which puts them in the 11-spot in the Eastern Conference. They are coming off of a close 95-93 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers last time out where RJ Barrett scored 24 in the loss. The Miami Heat are having a far better season far, as they are (30-17) and first in the East. The Heat are coming off a huge win over the Los Angeles Lakers 113-107 last time out. This game does have the making to be exciting if the Knicks show up on the road.

Why The Knicks Could Cover The Spread

The Knicks continue to be without Derrick Rose and that seems to be hurting them. They aren't getting great play from the backcourt and RJ Barrett seems to be doing it all himself. Immanuel Quickly is struggling this season. He just finished 1-10 against the Cavaliers and Evan Fornier seems to only play well against the Boston Celtics. They need their backcourt to improve tremendously and if they are going to cover this spread against the Heat, then they must find consistent play from them.

New York also needs to improve their scoring inside. NY ranks dead last in the NBA in scoring in the paint at just 40.6 points per game. Julius Randle leads the charge in the frontcourt and he needs to be a bigger reason for their offense. He's averaging just shy of 19 points per game but he needs to improve his scoring inside if they want to improve as a team. The Knicks are just 14-19 against the East this season. This is far worse than last year where they would beat up on the East and made their way to the playoffs. The Knicks are 5-5 in their last 10 games but on a positive note, their defense is playing well allowing just 100 points per game. The defense must step up tonight against the top-seeded Heat.

Why The Heat Could Cover The Spread

RECOMMENDED (Article Continues Below)

Miami has a couple of crucial players who won't be playing tonight against the Knicks. Tyler Herro will be out due to covid-19 protocols as well as Kyle Lowry for personal reasons. Miami has a great chance to cover this spread mainly because the Knicks aren't playing well. They will need to win by a comfortable margin so it's not going to be a walk in the park to cover. The Heat are 7-3 in their last 10 games, however, and seem to be playing well on the defensive end as well as NY. Miami is scoring 111 points per game but allowing just 105 over their last 10.

The Heat are 19-9 against the East this season. They are going to more than likely win this game, but if they want to cover they must defend Barrett and Randle very well. They need to control the paint because the Knicks are last in that category. If they do those things, then there should be no reason for the Heat not to cover this spread.

Final Knicks-Heat Prediction & Pick

I'm taking the Heat to cover this spread. I believe it will be a good game and I predict the offense to show up for both sides tonight. Consider taking the over here as well.

Final Knicks-Heat Prediction & Pick: Heat -6 (-106) & over: 203 (-110)
