The New York Knicks will face the Phoenix Suns in a cross-conference battle on Friday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Knicks-Suns prediction and pick.

The Knicks are one of the many disappointing teams in the NBA this season. After a playoff appearance last season, hopes were high for New York. Instead of living up to any sort of expectation, the Knicks have earned a 25-37 record, a mark that places them in the twelfth seed in the Eastern Conference. Things won't get any easier in this matchup. The Suns have undeniably been the best team in the NBA, as shown by their 50-12 record. Phoenix has been completely dominant all season long, so it's fair to expect more of the same when they face an unfamiliar Eastern Conference opponent.

Why The Knicks Could Cover The Spread

As usual, the Knicks will rely on their hard-nosed defense to keep them in this game. New York only gives up 107 points per game while holding their opponents to a 44% shooting percentage. They also have the eighth-highest block percentage in the NBA, in large part due to center Mitchell Robinson. The Knicks are facing an elite offense in this game, but this defense is good enough to hang around with anyone in the NBA if they play to their full potential.

The Suns will be missing two of their best players here. Point guard Chris Paul is dealing with a long-term injury, and star shooting guard Devin Booker will be forced to miss this game because of health and safety protocols. Those two players account for most of Phoenix's playmaking and scoring abilities, so the New York defense should perform particularly well. Cameron Payne and Landry Shamet will fill in as starters in this contest.

Why The Suns Could Cover The Spread

Even if the Suns aren't able to get going offensively, their defense will keep them in this game. They only allow 105 points per game while ranking inside the top five in nearly every other defensive metric. It helps that the Knicks have been terrible offensively. New York is a bad offensive team by almost every single available measure. They rank in the bottom five in the NBA in shooting percentage, shooting efficiency, and effective field goal percentage. They also haven't scored more than 110 points in any of their last four games. No one has trouble stopping the Knicks, and that will include the Suns after Friday night.

The Knicks are dealing with a few injuries of their own. Forward Quentin Grimes has already been ruled out of this game, and fellow forward Obi Toppin is questionable with a hamstring injury. Neither of those guys start when healthy, but they still play key roles for the Knicks. Cam Reddish and Taj Gibson will likely be forced into playing significant minutes, which doesn't sound like a recipe for success against the best team in the league.

Final Knicks-Suns Prediction & Pick

This is a pretty easy pick. Lock in the Suns despite all of their injuries. New York has lost six games in a row, and a road matchup with the best team in the league won't exactly fix their problems.

Final Knicks-Suns Prediction & Pick: Phoenix Suns: -7 (-110)
