Why The Lakers Could Cover The Spread

The Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling this season. The offseason addition of Russell Westbrook brought with it many questions about team chemistry and fit. While the Lakers have struggled, they seem to be trending in the right direction. Los Angeles has won their last two games and will be looking to carry that momentum into this match up. They took down the Spurs in overtime on Tuesday night without LeBron. Since the Thunder are one of the worst teams in the NBA it is likely that LeBron will also sit this one out. His absence will leave room for other team members to step up and notch LA a victory.

The leader of this team in LeBron's absence is without a doubt Anthony Davis. This is the big man's third year as a Laker and the fit has been perfect. AD is coming off his best performance of the season. Against San Antonio AD put up 35 points, 17 rebounds, and 4 blocks. If the Thunder want to have any chance at taking the Lakers down they will need to contain this man. AD had an injury scare in last night's game but was able to walk it off and lead LA to victory. Look for Davis to absolutely dominate this game and maybe even outdo his Tuesday night performance.

By AD's side this season is the newest member to LA, Russell Westbrook. Westbrook has been trying to find his place on this Lakers team. The dynamics are new to him and it appears as if the absence of LeBron in their game against the Spurs actually allowed Westbrook to step up. He put up 33 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists, and was a crucial part of LA's victory. With the likely absence of LeBron in Wednesday's match up, Westbrook will be looking to continue to dominate. If he is able to perform and lead this team then the Thunder stand no chance at taking down a fierce Lakers team.

Why The Thunder Could Cover The Spread

The Thunder have been struggling this season. An 0-4 start is not what this young roster hoped to see through their first 4 games. Their biggest flaw has been their failure to produce offensively. They have the young talent but have been lacking the energy and efficiency to win games. This Thunder team will need to come together and play solid team basketball if they want any shot at taking down the Lakers.

The face of the Oklahoma City Thunder is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. SGA put himself on the map last season and has been carrying that momentum into 2021. The fourth year guard is coming off his best performance of this young season. He dropped 30 points against Golden State, shooting 11 for 19 from the field and 4 for 5 beyond the arc. This is the type of efficiency that he will need if he hopes to lead the Thunder to their first win. But no one can do it on their own in today's NBA. The Thunder will need other members of the team to step up.

The Thunder need Darius Bazley to step up. Bazley showed a lot of promise last season and was a top candidate to have a breakout year this season. However, Bazley has yet to take that step. He will look to help his team notch their first win against LA. If the third year forward can step up and complement the play of SGA then the Thunder might be able to compete with the Lakers. LA is a tough team but they certainly aren't invulnerable.

Final Lakers-Thunder Prediction & Pick

The Lakers are by far the better team. Even with their struggles, the pure lopsidedness of talent between these two teams make this pick pretty easy. LA is coming off back to back wins and should have no problem dominating the worst team in the league. Even without LeBron, the Lakers are one of the best teams in the league. Pick Los Angeles to win and cover and be ready to watch a dominant performance.
