The NBA continues Sunday night with this Western Conference matchup! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Pelicans-Lakers prediction and pick.
The New Orleans Pelicans are fresh off of a huge statement win over the Phoenix Suns. New Orleans showed up on the road and held the best team in the NBA (record-wise) to just 102 points. The Pelicans are just (24-36) on the season, but with the addition of CJ McCollum, this team is better than their record. The Los Angeles Lakers are (27-32) on the season and are coming off a 3-point loss to the LA Clippers Friday night. This could end up being an entertaining game but Anthony Davis won't be playing against his former team.

Why The Pelicans Could Cover The Spread
The Pelicans can cover this spread if they play as they did against the Suns. They did everything right in that game even though Chris Paul didn't play for Phoenix. The Lakers will be short-handed as well as Davis will be out and that should benefit the Pelicans a lot. They will need to shut down LeBron James which they likely won't do, but if it's enough to keep them in the game, then they did their job. New Orleans and LA are both only (15-20) in the West but the Pelicans have won four-straight road games. I think New Orleans has a great chance to cover this spread because even without Zion Williamson, this team has the talent to start winning games.
Why The Lakers Could Cover The Spread
The Lakers need this win badly. They come into this game as the favorites at home and because they are in LA, and I think that is the only reason they are slightly favored. New Orleans is (6-4) in their last 10 games while LA is just (3-7). LA needs to really get back on track but it's going to be tough when AD is out … again. Carmelo Anthony is dealing with a hamstring issue and is currently day-to-day. James is also day-to-day with knee issues but I don't think he'll miss this game. The Lakers will be missing some other role-players as well so it will be on the starters to get the job done tonight. LA needs Russell Westbrook to have a huge game or else they could fall short to the Pelicans tonight.
The Lakers must try and contain McCollum and Brandon Ingram. There probably isn't anyone in the building more excited to play tonight as he faces his former team. We all know that Ingram headlined the package return for AD three years ago, and Ingram will have a chip on his shoulder tonight. Ingram is averaging 22.2 points per game while McCollum is averaging 29 points, six rebounds, and five assists in his six games in New Orleans.
Final Pelicans-Lakers Prediction & Pick
The Pelicans are (29-30-1) against the spread and the Lakers are worse at (26-33). I'm going to take the Pelicans to cover this spread on the road here. I think they are playing better as a team and the Lakers just can't get into a rhythm. Expect McCollum and Ingram to play well tonight.
Final Pelicans-Lakers Prediction & Pick: Pelicans +1 (-110)
