The New Orleans Pelicans will take on the Golden State Warriors on Friday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Pelicans-Warriors prediction and pick.

There are always a couple of teams per year that are immediate disappointments, and the Pelicans seem to fit the bill in this one. New Orleans enters this game with a 1-8 record, which is last in the Western Conference. This team is sorely missing star forward Zion Williamson, but a record like that is inexcusable for a team that had some playoff aspirations entering the season.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have exceeded every preseason expectation of them. Golden State is currently 6-1 and the second seed in the West. They have some quality wins over the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers to prove that this isn't a fluke start.

Here's how the bookmakers have set the lines for the Pelicans-Warriors game.

NBA Odds: Pelicans-Warriors Odds

New Orleans Pelicans: +8.5 (-110)

Golden State Warriors: -8.5 (-110)

Over: 214.5 (-108)

Under: 214.5 (-112)

Why The Pelicans Can Cover The Spread

Despite their abysmal record, the Pelicans actually haven't been that bad against the spread. New Orleans is 4-5 ATS, making them an average team by that metric. Golden State is only 4-3 against the spread, so it's entirely possible that the bookmakers are giving the Warriors a little bit too much credit in this one.

Looking at a 1-8 record is never a good thing, but New Orleans can proudly it has outplayed that record. The Pelicans lost three consecutive close games to the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, and New York Knicks. Those are three respectable teams that the Pelicans played very close. Things will eventually turn around for New Orleans, and it's possible that that begins here. Star forward Brandon Ingram has a chance to return to the lineup after a short absence, and his presence would spur an instant improvement in everything the Pelicans do.

Why The Warriors Can Cover The Spread

The Warriors are clearly the superior team in this matchup, and it's honestly not close. Golden State currently ranks as the fifth-best offensive team in the NBA by points per game while also ranking as the sixth-best defense in the league by opponent's points per game. Head coach Steve Kerr's unit won their last two games coming into this one by a combined 43 points, and both of those games were against opponents that were far superior to the Pelicans. There's a significant talent gap between these two, and it should be evident right away.

Home-court advantage has been kind to Golden State this season. The Warriors are 3-1 at home, but their wins have been absolutely dominant at the Chase Center. Two of those three wins were huge blowouts, and the third was an incredible comeback. The Pelicans are in the middle of a road trip that has featured two back-to-back blowout defeats away from home. New Orleans hasn't done much winning this season, and it's hard to see them coming into Chase Center and playing a good game against the Warriors.

Final Pelicans-Warriors Prediction & Pick

This is a pretty simple pick. It feels like the Pelicans get blown out on the reegular, and this one doesn't seem any different. Take the Warriors with confidence.
