Why The Rockets Could Cover The Spread
Houston remarkably followed up a 15-game losing streak with a seven-game winning streak that was snapped last Friday by the Bucks. The Rockets have now dropped two in a row, so they could be building another streak going in the wrong direction. The Hawks will have a big edge in talent vs. Houston on Monday, and have been off since their Friday night loss to the Brooklyn Nets. It will be a difficult task to say the least for the Rockets to win, but a cover is obviously in reach with this large spread. Rookie guard Jalen Green is out for the Rockets on Monday, which is a bummer but might actually benefit Houston. Rookies are generally bad, especially this early in the season and Green hasn't been much of an exception. His absence means more minutes for the Rockets' veteran players and that could be a good thing.
The Rockets are 1-12 on the road this season and 15-11-1 vs. the spread overall.
Why The Hawks Could Cover The Spread
The Hawks obviously come into this one as big favorites for a reason. Trae Young is doing his best to establish himself as one of the best players in the NBA, and he has a cast of quality teammates around him. John Collins and Kevin Huerter have both taken another step forward early in this young season, and have picked up the slack in the absences of Bogdan Bogdanovic and De'Andre Hunter. The Rockets will be facing an uphill battle matching up with Atlanta, as the Hawks have the edge on the inside with Collins and Clint Capela anchoring the paint. Young is in the top-5 in the NBA in both points and assists per game, and could be in store for a huge game in this one. The Hawks should be in a very good position to get the win here and a cover is also very much in play.
Atlanta is 8-5 at home this season and 11-15 against the spread.
Final Rockets-Hawks Prediction & Pick
This spread is big, but it opened at an even higher number. Take the Hawks to win and cover vs. the Rockets on Monday as they are on two days rest and in need of a win after a bit of a rough skid of late. Expect Young and Collins to both put up big numbers in this one.
Final Rockets-Hawks prediction & pick: Hawks -10 (-112)
