Why The Spurs Could Cover The Spread
The San Antonio Spurs are not off to the start that they had hoped. This team is in a rebuilding phase but they still need to win games. San Antonio is coming off a big win against the reigning NBA champion Bucks. The Spurs beat the Bucks by 9 and will look to carry that momentum into this game. They are facing their easiest opponent since opening night and will look to take care of business on the road.
Leading the way for San Antonio has been Dejounte Murray. Murray started off slow but has since picked things up. He's coming off a game where he put up 23 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals. Murray is an impact player for the Spurs and is a hugely important part of the offense. If he can get going against Indiana then the Spurs could end up dominating Indiana. The sixth year guard has improved every season he's been in the league and will look to continue that improvement Monday night. Look for Murray to have a big game.
A bright spot for this Spurs team has been Jakob Poeltl. Poeltl has emerged as a dominant big man. He is having the best season of his career by far. This season Poeltl is averaging over 14 points and 10 rebounds a game. The big man has been dominating down low and has been getting critical boards for the Spurs. His best performance of the season came against a tough Lakers team. In that game Poeltl put up 27 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Poeltl will be a huge part of this game and could be crucial for a San Antonio victory.
Why The Pacers Could Cover The Spread
The Indiana Pacers have had one of the worst starts to the season. They only have one win, however they're not off to as bad a start as it seems. Three of their losses came down to a single possession. Indiana is coming off a home loss to the Raptors. The Pacers lost that one 97-94. They continue to put themselves in position to win games but fail to close out. If they can address that problem against San Antonio then the Pacers could win this game.
The best player on this Pacers team is Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis has really stepped up and developed into a top talent in the league. He is averaging nearly 21 points and 11 rebounds a game. The offense flows through Sabonis. If the Pacers hope to win this game then they will need to get him going. He is coming off a 22 point and 14 rebound game against the Raptors. Sabonis will have a big impact on the game, and if the Spurs struggle to contain him then Indiana could run away with this one.
Some great news for the Pacers is that Caris LeVert is returning to action. He played his first game of the season in a limited capacity. Even so, he managed to put up 15 points in 16 minutes of play. As LeVert's minutes ramp up so will his production and the overall production of the team. LeVert is a very solid NBA player so Pacers fans should feel excited about the rest of the season. His impact on this matchup against the Spurs remains to be seen, but even in a limited capacity LeVert could play a role in helping Indiana get this win.

The Spurs are coming into this game as an underdog. This will definitely be a close game. Neither of these teams have been special this season but they are both solid NBA teams. San Antonio has had more success thus far and they should be who you side with. The Spurs are coming off a big win against the Bucks. While the Pacers have had more close games they haven't been able to finish. Even if Indiana wins this game the Spurs should at least be able to cover. Pick the Spurs to cover and get ready for what should be a fun game.
