Why The Timberwolves Could Cover The Spread
The Timberwolves have been up and down this season They have lost their last three games, with their most recent defeat coming at the hand of the Lakers by five. After losing to the Lakers at Staples Center, they will return to the same building to face the Clippers.
With key offensive players in Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell out, Minnesota shot poorly against the Lakers. However, the Timberwolves stayed in the game thanks to being dominant on the boards, outrebounding the Lakers by a whopping 28. With Towns and Russell not quite ready to return despite being out of COVID-19 protocols, crushing the glass could be important again if the shots don’t fall.
The Timberwolves could also use a bigger game from Anthony Edwards, though he won’t be able to carry this team alone. Other players will need to step it up if Minnesota wants to win on Monday.
Why The Clippers Could Cover The Spread
The Clippers have been middling this season thanks to their massive health issues. However, LA is coming off an impressive four-point point victory over the Nets. That was a very surprising win for the Clippers, who were facing a Nets team that had both Kevin Durant and James Harden on the court.
This Clippers team is gritty and will fight for every point. This was seen against Brooklyn. Eric Bledsoe led six players in double figures with 27 points as LA scored 40 points in the fourth quarter to early the win. Despite being undermanned and getting crushed on the boards, the Clippers held the Nets to 43.3% shooting. If they bring that tenacity on Monday, LA could earn another win.
Both COVID and injuries have devastated this Clippers team. With only two players in the league’s health and safety protocols, injuries have had a much bigger impact on LA. The Clippers have six injured players, only one of which is questionable for Monday’s game. The recent loss of Paul George has been hitting this Clippers team hard as they continue to battle through Kawhi Leonard’s absence. Monday will certainly not be an easy game for LA, but it is certainly winnable.

This is a tough decision. The Timberwolves are a decent team, but they are missing two of their best players. Los Angeles, on the other hand, is riddled with injuries but somehow managed to defeat a mostly healthy Nets team. This game could really go either way, it just depends which version of each team shows up. When in doubt, bet on momentum. The Wolves have dropped their last three games and the Clippers are coming off a big win. Side with LA in this one, and pick the Clippers to win and cover.
