The Golden State Warriors are visiting Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to face the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second game of their five-game road trip. With that said, it’s time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Warriors-Cavaliers prediction and pick.

The Warriors are coming off a huge 38-point win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday for their third consecutive win and to regain the 9th seed in the Western Conference with a record of 27-28. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers have only won three of their last 10 games for a record of 20-34 and the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Warriors-Cavaliers odds.

NBA Odds: Warriors-Cavaliers Odds

Golden State Warriors -6.5 (-113)

Cleveland Cavaliers +6.5 (-107)

Over 224 Points (-112)

Under 224 Points(-108)

Why The Warriors Could Cover The Spread

The Warriors have won three straight games including wins against the Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets, and Thunder.

In those victories, Steph Curry has been absolutely dominant on the offensive end of the floor. Curry had 38 points including eight three-pointers against the Rockets, 53 points including 10 three-pointers against the Nuggets, and lastly 42 points with 11 three-pointers against the Thunder.

So far this season, Curry has averaged 30.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game while shooting above 40 percent from the field and making five three-pointers per game. The impact that he has on the Warriors offensive goes way beyond his stat line though.

Curry's ability to make plays for his teammates on the offensive end of the floor combined with how well he can shoot the ball from behind the three-point line makes him a very tough defensive coverage. With him on the floor, it frees up the rest of the players on the Warriors for an open layup, midrange, or three-point shot.

The key for the Warriors to cover the spread against the Cavaliers on Thursday will be to ride the hot hands of Curry by running plays to get him open so that he can get going offensively early in the game.

Why The Cavaliers Could Cover The Spread

The Cavaliers may be without their star player, Collin Sexton, against the Warriors on Thursday. This is awful news for coach J. B. Bickerstaff who loses his main offensive weapon against a very hot Golden State team.

Sexton so far this season has been averaging 24.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. The Cavaliers will be desperately missing Sexton as they already have the second-worst offensive rating in the entire league.

Fortunately, the Cavs have five other players averaging double-digit points but none of whom are putting up over 20 points per game. Regardless of whether Sexton is out, Coach Bickerstaff will need to find more offensive production from his other starters—Darius Garland, Kevin Love, and Jarrett Allen.

On top of their terrible offensive performance, the Cavaliers are also ranked as one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA which is a terrible combination for winning basketball. That said, the Cavaliers will have a tough night trying to cover the spread especially against Curry who has been on fire as of late.

Final Warriors-Cavaliers Prediction & Pick

The Cavaliers haven't been playing the best basketball as of late losing to the Toronto Raptors, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers all by double-digit points. The issue for this Cleveland team has been the inability to play defense and score the ball on the other end of the floor. If Curry can continue his incredible offensive performances for his team, the Warriors should pick up their fourth consecutive win and also begin their five-game road trip 2-0.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION & PICK FOR WARRIORS-CAVALIERS: GSW 122, CLE 108 (GSW -6.5)
