There's been so much talk about how long this current Golden State Warriors core can remain intact and competing for titles and not enough talk about the man behind the scenes. Longtime Warriors President and General Manager Bob Myers will have his contract run out by the end of the season.

What many would think would be a cut-and-dry extension sounds like anything but that. Rumors among NBA circles see Myers potentially leaving the Warriors if things stay at their current trajectory, according to The Athletic's report from Anthony Slater, Marcus Thompson II, and Sam Amick.

“As the clock ticks and extension talks remain flat, many around Bob Myers are wondering whether – and even predicting that – his days with the Warriors are about to run out. That outcome would present some critical questions: Why? What could be next? What kind of ripple effects would it have on the Warriors?”

Myers is said to be seeking an annual salary that's commensurate with his achievements. Considering he's pulled the strings behind a four-time title winner with several key moves with his name on them, that's nothing short of the highest-paid executive in the NBA. Warriors owner Joe Lacob has claimed that Myers is in the top three. But the report indicates that he's actually several rungs lower somewhere around the sixth to eighth range.

That's not a bad spot to be in, but still behind  a handful of names in the league such as Daryl Morey with the Sixers, Pat Riley with the Heat, Masai Ujiri with the Raptors, R.C. Buford with the Spurs, and some less-proven names like Tim Connelly with the Timberwolves and Leon Rose with the Knicks.

Other motivations for Bob Myers could be the opportunity to test his mettle elsewhere, whether in another NBA front office situation or a different role entirely. Given his astute decision-making prowess over the years, it's hard to imagine Myers would make the wrong call about his own situation. Warriors fans will surely hope it's a decision that keeps him in Golden State.
