Atlanta Hawks sophomore point guard Trae Young went down in the second quarter against the Miami Heat, with an apparent ankle sprain causing Hawks fans and NBA spectators to hold their collective breath.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old rising star had x-rays return with negative results for damage and, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter, there is “optimism” it is not a serious injury prior to MRI findings.

Young stepped on Heat wing Justise Winslow's foot while driving to the basket early in the second quarter of the two teams' matchup. The former fifth-overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft quickly went down, grabbing his right foot. Young had to be helped off the court with two Hawks officials on both sides of him while the Oklahoma product gingerly walked off the hardwood, raising his right foot as to not put any pressure on the ankle.

Young had been off to an incredible start of his second season after finishing runner-up in last year's Rookie of the Year voting. He was averaging 34.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 9.0 assists in 36.0 minutes per game through three contests. Young and the Hawks played Monday night, too, in a game the floor general competed in 35 minutes in a two-point home loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Hawks fans, though, can breathe a sigh of relief given the optimistic news to Young's right ankle injury. It's unclear if Trae will miss much time, but he is certainly the centerpiece of the franchise's current rebuild next to this past draft class' pick-ups of De'Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish, and Bruno Fernando.
