It's been just about three months since Trae Young last took the floor in a high-stakes basketball game. Perhaps finally scratching a nagging competitive itch, the Atlanta Hawks guard showed no mercy during a pickup game with kids participants at his youth camp.

Young was the No. 5 overall pick of last year's draft. Originally selected by the Dallas Mavericks, he was traded to the Hawks on draft night in exchange for the rights to eventual Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic and a future first-round pick.

The Oklahoma product averaged 19.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game in 2018-19, numbers that fail to reflect just how good he was over the season's second half, when Atlanta began separating itself from the rest of the league's bottom-dwellers. The Hawks went a solid 10-14 after the All-Star break, buoyed by an offense that ranked 11th in the NBA over the season’s final third.

Young, not coincidentally, averaged 24.7 points and 9.2 assists per game over that timeframe and even hit multiple game-winning shots at the buzzer, making a late-season push for Rookie of the Year. He had to settle for First Team All-Rookie instead, joining Doncic, Jaren Jackson of the Memphis Grizzlies, DeAndre Ayton of the Phoenix Suns, and Marvin Bagley of the Sacramento Kings.
