One of the hardest things for a free agent to deal with is picking out the right situation. Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin was faced with that same dilemma this offseason, because it's not always about the money or the destination as it's often portrayed — but the place that gives the best opportunity for a career to take off.
Prior to finalizing a three-year, $36 million offer with the Nets, Lin was “highly intrigued” in joining the New Orleans Pelicans and playing alongside their franchise player Anthony Davis, according to ESPN's Mike Mazzeo.
In hindsight, the move would have played out for him as Jrue Holiday is out indefinitely to look out for the health of his wife and daughter, and he could have likely gotten the nod to start over current starter Tim Frazier.

So, it wasn't just the money aspect, which undeniably played a key role too, but also being treated as a top priority by the Nets influenced Lin on his decision.
“This is where I want to be,” Lin said of his new team. “I feel this is the best place for me to become the player I think I can become. I want to see how good I can become and be a big part of an organization, and that's what they gave me here.”
Jeremy Lin had a solid 11.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and three assists in 78 appearances coming off the bench for the Charlotte Hornets last season.
