Kevin Durant was once seen as the potential savior of the New York Knicks. The possibility of him joining them in free agency seemed real. Now, the Brooklyn Nets superstar is one of the team's main enemies. Spurning them for their in-city rival and playing up the rivalry between the two teams makes him one of the most-hated foes in Madison Square Garden.
After the Nets defeated the Knicks by a score of 110-98 on their home court, Durant was told that he hasn't lost a game to them since 2013, back when he was on the Oklahoma City Thunder. He retorted that he can take this fact and brag about it on Twitter.

Durant, who recorded a triple-double in the victory and dropped 53 points on the Knicks previously, explained that New York fans express lots of animosity towards the Nets because he and Kyrie Irving chose them over the Knicks. He said that the rivalry is fun and hopes it grows.

The rivalry between Brooklyn and New York will always go on, as being in the same city ensures animosity between the fanbases. With Durant and Irving leading the Nets, the intensity will always be strong. The “what if?” question will always linger and could always haunt the Knicks as long as Durant continues to beat them.
While the Knicks wrap up a losing season, the Nets will look to clinch homecourt advantage in the play-in tournament. The rivalry on the New York City hardwood will continue next season. Durant will look to keep his winning streak alive.
