Chicago Bulls interim head coach Jim Boylen hopes to keep building toughness and gritty defense within the team as they try to turn things around this season.

It's been quite a start to the 2018-19 campaign in Chicago, as the franchise fired former head coach Fred Hoiberg after a disappointing 5-19 start.

And after Boylen took over the post, things haven't gotten much better with the Bulls sitting at 10-27 following the 95-89 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

However, even with the issues throughout the season, Boylen is still focused on building a strong foundation as long as he's in charge.

Here's what he had to say about his vision for the team as the season progresses, courtesy of K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune:

Boylen: “As we grow together and get healthy together, I’m confident the offense will come. But we’re going to have a foundation built on toughness, competitiveness, defense and playing for each other. That’s what I want. And that’s what I’ve been asked to do.”

On a positive note, the Bulls have won three of their last five games and at least had a chance at victory in Toronto.

It seems like Boylen is starting to find the right approach in Chicago, and with three straight home games on the way, the Bulls may be able to build some much-needed momentum before long road trip out west.

Boylen's squad will return to the court on Wednesday night to take on the Orlando Magic, with the Bulls winning the previous meeting between the two back on Dec. 21.
