Lonzo Ball is currently happy with the Chicago Bulls but two years ago, it was a different story.
In 2019, the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a blockbuster trade that saw them landing then-New Orleans Pelicans All-Star big man Anthony Davis in exchange for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, the draft rights to De’Andre Hunter, two first-round draft picks, and a first-round pick swap and cash.
AD quickly made an impact to the Lakers and went on to win his first NBA championship with the team. Ball, on the other hand, played the next two seasons of his career with the struggling NOLA squad.
Reflecting on the said trade, Ball reckoned that he's no stranger to business but it was a bit “different” to feel that “somebody” was not happy to have him in the team.
“It was different for me,” the Bulls guard said via NBC Sports. “I know it’s part of the business, but it was the first time I felt like somebody didn’t really want me in a way, I guess. But it was Anthony Davis, so there was no shame in that. He’s one of the best players to ever play.”
“So for myself, BI (Brandon Ingram), and Josh Hart as well, we were happy to get to a new situation and have a start-over moment,” he added. “I think it helped my career personally. In the long run, it made me a better person and a better player.”
Now with the Bulls, Ball insists that he is content and has already moved on.
“I think everything happens for a reason,” he concluded. “I’m where I’m supposed to be now. It feels great.”
