The Chicago Bulls are having a disaster of a season, and the news isn't getting any better. Guard Zach LaVine, who leads the team in several offensive categories, likely won't be returning from his ankle injury for a while, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.

LaVine injured his ankle during the Bulls' recent game against the Orlando Magic. The guard scored 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting in over 40 minutes in the loss, but he appeared to suffer the injury on a late drive in the final seconds. So far, he has only missed one game since the injury.

The 23-year-old was one of the major players the Bulls received in return when they traded Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves on draft day in 2017. Then coming off ACL surgery, LaVine was able to come back and play 24 games for the Bulls last season. He averaged 27.3 minutes per game in a starting role, posting 16.7 points per game on 38.3 shooting from the field.

This season, however, LaVine has been outstanding for Chicago. In 28 games played to date, he is shooting 45.0 percent from the floor despite just 32.6 percent from 3-point range. LaVine is averaging career-bests in points (23.8), rebounds (4.4), assists (4.8), steals (1.1), and blocks per game (0.5).

The Bulls pulled off a surprising road victory over the San Antonio Spurs in LaVine's absence on Saturday night, 98-93. Even still, they're just 7-23 on the season and have already fired their head coach, Fred Hoiberg. Chicago has dealt with injuries and long absences from several of their key players, including Lauri Markkanen, Bobby Portis, and Kris Dunn.
