LaVine will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time and is going to take advantage of it. The Bulls' two-time All-Star is smart for doing so. Testing the waters will give him an idea of what is out there and will put the pressure on Chicago to come through with a $212 max contract.
DeMar DeRozan made it clear that LaVine is worth a max contract, which should be an obvious sign that the Bulls should just pay him. He will be compensated handsomely because he spent years helping Chicago build into the team they are right now. This season, he played through pain down the homestretch. It's clear that he is willing to give his all for the Bulls.
The Bulls don't need a major overhaul. All they need is to make some tweaks and keep this core intact for next season. With better injury luck, they could be an improved team.
