The Chicago Bulls are likely going to waive point guard Cameron Payne after their trade with the Memphis Grizzlies is completed, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Bulls acquired small forward Wayne Selden, combo guard MarShon Brooks, and a 2019 and 2020 second-round pick from the Grizzlies for shooting guard Justin Holiday on Thursday.

Chicago now has 16 players on the roster, so they have to waive one to get down to 15, making Cameron Payne expendable.

The Bulls start Kris Dunn at point guard and have Ryan Arcidiacono as his backup.

Cameron Payne has played in 31 games this season for the Bulls. The lefty is averaging 5.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 27.1 percent from beyond the arc and 88.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Payne began his NBA career with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2015. OKC traded him to Chicago in 2017. Payne has undergone two foot surgeries in his playing career and has never shown to be a valuable NBA player. He has career averages of 5.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 144 NBA games.

The Bulls are 10-28 on the season, 13th place in the Eastern Conference. Chicago is likely headed for a high draft pick for the second season in a row.
