In many instances, the path to becoming an NBA player begins with attending camps that the players before them held during the summer.

During a recent Q & A session at one of his camps, Dallas Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes revealed to the kids at the event that he was once in their shoes as a youth.

“I was sitting in a place where you are sitting were wanting to play in the NBA someday. I heard all the numbers, statistics, and how hard it is to get to the NBA. On draft night when I heard my name called I went across the stage and shook at that time David Stern's hand. That was pretty cool.”

This is a testament to Barnes' hard work on the court to achieve his dream of becoming an NBA player. He became one of the top players in the country in high school where he was recognized as a McDonald All-American helping him earn a scholarship to play at the University of North Carolina.

Barnes spent two years at the collegiate level before making the jump to the NBA where he was selected with the seventh overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors. He played the first four years in the league with the Warriors that included earning an NBA title.

His hard work on the floor helped him earn a lucrative four-year, $94 million deal from the Mavericks last summer where he has further developed into one of the better forwards in the league. All of this is a testament to his strong commitment to reaching his goal that could be used as a source of inspiration for kids currently looking to do the same when they get older.
