In the wake of the Dallas Mavericks trading franchise star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, Mavericks fans have let their feelings be known. Ahead of Anthony Davis’ debut, Mavericks fans staged a protest outside the arena, and a pair of fans were ejected after getting into a shouting match with Mark Cuban. During Adam Silver’s annual All-Star press conference, he had a message for Mavericks fans following the Luka Doncic trade, as per Ben Golliver of the Washington Post.

“Whether or not history will ultimately judge this as a smart trade, [the Mavericks] did what they think was in the best interest of their organization,” Silver said. “[Mavericks fans] should believe in their organization.”

Even with Adam Silver’s message, Mavericks fans probably won’t get over the Luka Doncic trade anytime soon. To make matters worse, Anthony Davis got hurt during his Dallas debut and is currently sidelined indefinitely.

On the flip side, the Lakers are 1-1 since Doncic made his debut, splitting a home and away set against the Utah Jazz.

In Davis’ Mavericks debut, he finished with 26 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists. In Doncic’s Lakers debut, he finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Doncic gives the Lakers a generational superstar to lead them for the next several years. Last season, Doncic led the Mavericks to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011. .

In the aftermath of the trade, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has come under fire and criticism from fans, with one fan apparently mouthing, ‘fire Nico,’ while being shown on the arena Jumbotron.

On the court, Davis’ injury issues couldn’t have come at a worse time. The Mavericks frontcourt is currently depleted due to injury with Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively II and Dwight Powell all sidelined alongside Davis going into the All-Star break.

As Silver set, only time will tell as to how history ultimately judges the trade.
