On February 1, the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks stunned the world with a trade that sent Luka Doncic to LA and a package featuring Anthony Davis to Dallas. The Lakers-Mavericks trade was a shocker, and it began a new era for the Mavs, although fans certainly weren't pleased with their superstar being shipped out.

Now, for the first time since the trade, Doncic and the Lakers will play in Dallas at the American Airlines Center. There will be plenty of emotions from both sides, but the Mavericks do plan on honoring Doncic in a special way, per Marc Stein.

“April 9th is now here and I'm told that the Mavericks plan to introduce Luka Dončić last among the Lakers' starters Wednesday night … with t-shirts also planned bearing a thank you message in Luka's native Slovenian. The t-shirts to be distributed in Luka’s honor tonight, I’m told, offer the thank you message in Slovenian but cannot feature his name or number since Dončić is no longer a Mavericks player.”

The shirts will read, “Hvala za vse,” which means, “Thank you so much.”

The Mavericks also have a special video tribute planned for Doncic, who spent his entire NBA career with the franchise before being traded.

“And just over two months later, Luka Doncic makes his return to Dallas tonight on ESPN (7:30 pm ET) as the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Mavericks. A tribute video and thank you shirts are planned inside the Mavs arena,” per Shams Charania of ESPN.

Previous reports stated that the Mavericks were “wrestling” with how to honor Doncic, and there was plenty of pushback from the fanbase after the trade. It worsened more when Davis got injured, so it hasn't been a great two months in Dallas.

As for Doncic's feelings on the return, he spoke about coming back to Dallas after the loss on Tuesday night.

“I don't really know what to expect,” Doncic said. “I don't know how I'm going to feel, honestly. I'm looking forward to being back in Dallas, obviously, with the fans, seeing my teammates — ex-teammates. It's going to be very emotional for me, for sure.”

Nonetheless, there will be plenty of emotions from everybody involved in Doncic's first game back in Dallas.
