After going undrafted in 2015, the 23-year-old Arizona product played for the Texas Legends of the D-League, before agreeing to a deal to play last year with Alba Berlin of the German League. Brandon Ashley saw action in the recently concluded Summer League as well, where he impressed the Mavs with his improved all-around game.
At 6-foot-9 and 230 pounds, he has the ability to play both forward positions, which definitely plays to his advantage. Should he make it to the team’s final lineup for next season, his versatility will be his biggest strength, and it will give head coach Rick Carlisle more combinations to field in during games.
It remains unclear what kind of deal Brandon Ashley signed, but it’s believed to be a two-way contract, which would allow him to be assigned to the G-League, to gain more experience, should he not make it beyond training camp.
