Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic will have “no vacation.” After all, he is a player who wants to keep winning in every stage of basketball.

After failing to lead the Mavs to a deeper run in the 2021 playoffs, Doncic is not taking any time off and will be heading back to Slovenia soon to help the national team qualify for the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

Doncic confirmed his commitment to Slovenia during Monday's talk with reporters, noting that it is one of his goals to bring his country to the said international stage.

“This is my main goal—qualifying Slovenia for the Olympics,” Doncic said, per Callie Caplan of the Dallas Morning News. “I'm going to be heading back to Slovenia and starting practicing, so no vacation.”

While this decision might worry some Mavs fans–who would probably like it better for Luka Doncic to rest and avoid any serious injury–joining the national team undoubtedly has its benefits for the Slovenian. He is only 22 years old and has more room to grow, so playing competitive basketball should only help speed up his growth.

A lot has been said about Doncic's need to make his teammates more involved instead of carrying the offense alone, and playing for the national team in a European style of basketball that emphasizes passing and positioning more should certainly have a positive impact on his game.

For what it's worth, the Mavs will also be keeping an eye on Doncic in his national team stint. Per Caplan, head coach Rick Carlisle, general manager Donnie Nelson and director of player health and performance Casey Smith will join Luka in Slovenia and spend some time with him as they try to help him recover from his latest NBA stint and monitor his overall workouts with the national team.

Hopefully, Luka Doncic will see better success with Slovenia in the Olympic qualifiers. They are scheduled to play the qualifying games late this June until early July, during which Slovenia will face the likes of Poland, Angola and Lithuania, as well as South Korea and Venezuela.
