The Dallas Mavericks are not expected to do much this upcoming season. There aren’t just enough tools for them to rise above in the Western Conference where two superstars appear to be not enough to carry the team to the top of the group. The Mavs have no superstars unless you still consider Dirk Nowitzki as one. In that case, Dallas will be hoping for a 39-year-old to guide the team to success. That doesn’t sound too exciting.

What’s exciting, though, is the Mavs’ ultra-athletic rookie, Dennis Smith Jr. Smith has been consistently supplying hoops fans with electrifying highlights this offseason, and he added another one Thursday in a preseason game against the Orlando Magic when he got up high in the air and slammed home an alley-oop pass from Seth Curry.

The Mavericks lost the game, 112-89, which could be telling of how bad the team is going to be.

Dennis Smith Jr. finished the game with 13 points on 4-for-13 shooting from the field to go with three rebounds and an assist, and plays like that from the NBA newbie should keep Mavs fans glued to the game even if their team is getting blown out.
