After a redshirt year with the Denver Nuggets, Michael Porter Jr. is ready to take the NBA by storm.

Porter, who was selected 14th overall by the Nuggets in the 2018 NBA Draft, spent the 2018-19 season on the sidelines. He underwent a second back surgery on June 2018, prompting Denver to sit him out for the whole season to rehab instead of risking another back injury.

The 21-year-old small forward, however, is now fully healthy and ready to make his professional debut. And with a year of NBA training under his belt, MPJ is dreaming big.

“Yeah, I do,” Michael Porter Jr. told Altitude Sports when asked if he is thinking about Rookie of the Year. “It's a goal in the back of my head, but my main goal is just to help.

“We're already a great team, I want to help, do what I can to help this team improve even more. Even if that's cheering in the bench. I don't want to be the guy that brings this team down.”

Michael Porter Jr. was projected to be a Top-5 pick in 2018 before his back issues affected his draft stock. The Nuggets took a risk on him, hoping that he'll be able to return as the highly-touted prospect he once was.

In three games for Missouri, Porter averaged 10.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He figures to be a crucial piece for the Nuggets, who boast a young core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Gary Harris.

Porter is expected to face some tough competition for the ROY award though, with 2019 top picks Zion Williamson, Ja Morant and RJ Barrett also predicted to have outstanding seasons.
