The Detroit Pistons are going to have some interesting decisions to make in the rest of the 2022 season because it seems likely that they are going to get rid of Jerami Grant and go even further into a rebuild mode than they already are in.

If the Pistons want to have any success in the next few years, they're going to have to be very selective about things they are going to need to do. There are many areas that they must avoid if they don't want to make any mistakes and help speed up this rebuild process.

Let's take a look at three areas the Pistons must avoid in order to speed up this rebuilding process and help bring a championship team back to Detroit sooner rather than later

Pistons Must Avoids 2022

3. Get rid of Kelly Olynyk's contract

The biggest thing that the Pistons need to do this season is to make sure that they can get rid of Kelly Olynyk's contract. He hasn't been able to play much this year due to suffering an MCL sprain back in November but when he was on the court he has been decent for this team. The reality of the situation is that he has not been good enough for how much money he makes and the Pistons do need to decide to get rid of him.

This isn't a bad thing for the Pistons at all because he's not really a part of this team's future even when he was on the court. The Pistons need to also factor in that they can get back a decent return for him because many contending teams are going to want a guy who can stretch the floor and that's exactly what Kelly Olynyk can do. Many teams saw what he did with Miami in the playoffs and are going to want another guy like that who can come in for a contending team and be a guy who can knock down shots while also being a big body on the defensive side of the ball.

At the very least, he should be able to get back a young player for this Pistons team who can come in and be a part of the rebuild. This is exactly what they need and trading Olynyk while getting rid of that $10 plus million contract is perfect for this team.

2. Be very selective with trading Jerami Grant

It seems inevitable at this point that the Pistons are going to decide to get rid of Jerami Grant. It is a questionable decision from their perspective because Grant is one of the best scorers in basketball and he's not particularly old. He is still only 27 years old and can certainly help speed up this rebuild process.

Because they are going to trade him, they do need to be very selective about what they do. If they are not going to get back another young star player who can come in and immediately help this team or plenty of draft picks, they need to think about holding on to him until they do get that right deal for him.

If they do decide to trade him for a guy like Ben Simmons on the Philadelphia 76ers, this would be a horrible idea from the Pistons because Simmons isn't going to come on this Pistons team and immediately make them much better than they already are. The Pistons aren't in a good spot and adding Simmons isn't going to speed up any of this rebuilding process or help this team out at the moment.

They need to be very selective about what they do and if they do not at least get back a star player or a few draft picks, they must wait to move Grant.

1. Bring in young guys who want to be part of the rebuild

The biggest thing that the Pistons are going to be looking for the next few seasons is getting guys who want to be part of the rebuild and come in and play with some fire to help speed that process up. They obviously have their number one option in Cade Cunningham and he has shown throughout his rookie season that he is going to be a very good NBA player.

The biggest concern for this Pistons team at the moment is making sure that they can surround Cunningham with guys on their roster who are going to suit him well. They also need to make sure that they are younger in age and want to come be a part of this rebuild because it's not going to be a fun time for the next few seasons.
