Upon his return to the sidelines, head coach Steve Kerr got to see the other side of the coin with his Golden State Warriors, going from a tie of an all-time best four turnovers in Game 1 of the NBA Finals to a whopping 20 turnovers in Game 2.
The skipper assured that despite coming out with a convincing win on Sunday night, the team would be hard-pressed to come out the winning end of things if they play with the same carelessness with which they did Sunday.
Article Continues Below“We played with great energy, but heading to Cleveland, we're gonna have to be a lot smarter,” Kerr told reporters post-game. “If we play that same game in Cleveland, there's no way we win.”
These first two games of the Finals have shown both sides of how the Warriors can play — grinding out a defensive battle in Game 1 and putting on an incredible display of offensive firepower, but coming at the cost of untimely mistakes.
If there's anything that has cost Golden State wins during the season, it has been turnovers — a key element which the Cleveland Cavaliers are sure to hone into for their two-game home stand this week.
The Cavs followed a zero-steal outing in Game 1 with a whopping 15 steals in Game 2, garnering 11 more shot attempts throughout the game while committing only nine of their own.
The turnover battle will say a lot about each team's discipline, but neither squad has been able to put offense and defense together through these first two outings. The first team to do so can very much decide the fate of these NBA Finals.
