Golden State Warriors skipper Steve Kerr isn't worried about how his team will handle a rubber match in the NBA Finals against the reigning champion Cleveland Cavaliers after having to deal with his absence due to health concerns — but is rather confident the championship pedigree will come into play with a collection of players that have been through the brightest spotlight of them all.

Having swept through the first three rounds of competition to the tune of a 12-0 record, and heading into the first two games at home, Kerr maintained that his involvement would be rather similar as if he were in the sidelines.

“There's a lot for me to assess in terms of… whether I should jump out there,” Kerr told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News on Wednesday. “We're doing fine without me. Honestly I don't think it'll matter too much to the team. I think the team will be fine no matter what we do. Because we're going to do the same stuff.”

“I'm there. I've been messaging and watching film and breaking down everything. And I'll do that before and after the game whether I'm coaching or not.”

Ever since coming back from his latest consultation at Duke University, the 51-year-old coach has been actively involved with the team, being a full participant on practices and delivering heartfelt speeches at halftime of every game of the last series, even traveling with the team.

Kerr expects to have the same level of involvement and doesn't expect a clash of opinions with acting coach Mike Brown, since the two have meshed well throughout the entire season.

He maintained the idea that him not being able to coach the team has been a bigger story than it usually would be, because of the magnitude of the series, as the Warriors have gone a perfect 10-0 with Brown at the helm.

“I think just, it's the Finals, there's going to be a spotlight,” Kerr said. “Is it a distraction? Is it another storyline? Do we need to deal with all that?

“I don't know. Ultimately I don't think I can worry about that. I've got to play it by ear – if I'm feeling good I should coach and if I'm not feeling up to it, then I shouldn't. And it's that simple.”
