Following the Los Angeles Lakers‘ surprising win over the San Antonio Spurs, the Golden State Warriors sought out a great opportunity to yet again take the best record in the NBA by defeating the Phoenix Suns 120-111 on the road Wednesday night.
The win knocks the Spurs 4.5 games back from the Warriors, making it mathematically impossible to tie for the league's best record and securing Golden State's homecourt advantage throughout this year's NBA playoffs.
The Warriors also became the first team to notch 65-plus wins in three straight years, coming a game after edging the 1995-98 Chicago Bulls (203) for the most total wins for a team in a three-year span.
Though a majority of the credit will rest with the players on the court, head coach Steve Kerr has shown his poise, not allowing the team to panic after losing three games in a row back in March, a skid unlike anything they've ever seen in his era at the helm of this team.

The team rebounded to win 13 straight games heading into Saturday's matchup with the New Orleans Pelicans, which will also mark the return of star forward Kevin Durant after a prolonged absence with a knee injury.
With no other reason or record to fight for, it's likely Kerr and the coaching staff will take turns resting players down the stretch, also allowing Durant to get into a rhythm and giving him the green light to take as many shots as he'd like.
The Warriors are 13-0 since the infamous rest on March 11 against the Spurs, having proven once again that Kerr's tactical plan was rightfully done.
