Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant scored 21 points in the Warriors' Game 2 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night, but he only took eight shots, which is not what you would expect from one of the top players in the league in a playoff game.
Golden State ended up blowing a 31-point lead in a 135-131 loss, and you have to wonder if the Dubs would have been able to hold on if Durant had simply been more assertive.
FOX Sports analyst Shannon Sharpe ripped Durant for his performance in the defeat, saying that there is no way that Durant should have been affected that much by Clippers guard Patrick Beverley:
“The Warriors collapsed. … How did the best player in the NBA get locked up by that prison guard, Patrick Beverley?” said Sharpe on “Undisputed.” “They playing that Akon song, ‘They got me locked up, won't let me out.' … KD shouldn't have more turnovers than shot attempts, fewer shot attempts than Draymond.”
Sharpe has a point.
Durant committed nine turnovers and ended up fouling out in 34 minutes of action in what was definitely one of his most underwhelming playoff performances in a Warriors uniform.
The two-time Finals MVP has about a foot on Beverley in terms of height, so there is no reason why he should be struggling so much against the feisty Clippers guard, regardless of how good of a defender he is.
Durant and the Warriors will get their shot at redemption on Thursday night when they travel to the Staples Center for Game 3.
