Chalk up win No. 1 for the Golden State Warriors as they trounced the Los Angeles Lakers, 119-109, at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday in their season opener.
It was a close affair between the division rivals, but the Warriors did enough in the fourth quarter to stave off the Lakers, who played without LeBron James due to a sciatica injury.
Golden State's star trio delivered. Jimmy Butler tallied 31 points, five rebounda, and four assists, while Stephen Curry chipped in 23 points, four assists, and three steals. Draymond Green had eight points, seven rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and two blocks.
Curry admitted that their offense got “stagnant” in the second quarter, but they regrouped at halftime and regained control of the contest.
“Our organized chaos took over in that first four minutes (of the second half)—easy layups, easy catch-and-shoot threes just off of ball movement. Warriors basketball took over,” said the two-time MVP in the postgame interview.
"Our organized chaos took over… Warrior basketball took over."

The Warriors, who led by as much as 17 points, nailed 17 three-pointers on an impressive 42.5% clip. They also had 29 assists.
The 37-year-old Curry played in his 17th season opener, recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained in last season's playoffs. He stressed that he doesn't take it for granted and considers it a “blessing.”
“I just love to hoop. I love the teammates I have and the opportunity to just keep chasing, hopefully another title, but also great basketball in the process. It brings the best out of you,” added Curry.
The Warriors survived the Lakers despite Luka Doncic's near triple-double of 43 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists.
Al Horford had five points and five rebounds off the bench in his debut for Golden State.
