Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry hurt his ankle in Thursday night's win over the San Antonio Spurs. There was some initial concern over how serious the injury might be, but head coach Steve Kerr provided an update on Curry's status before Friday night's game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Kerr said the initial plan was for Curry to travel with the team on its upcoming road trip so he can do treatment, and that there was a possibility he could play Sunday, per Anthony Slater of The Athletic. But that changed soon after he came back from talking to reporters after the game on Thursday.
“I think the was the wise decision,” Kerr said. “I probably shouldn't have said anything in the first place. I should've just waited. But this makes sense.”

Curry's ankles have been questionable for years since he first sustained an injury. In his first few seasons in the league, he had to have surgery on each of his ankles. That is part of the reason why he was on a cheap contract recently.
In the last few years, Curry has been relatively injury free, which obviously helps the Warriors with what they want to do, which is win more championships. So keeping him at home and limiting his travel makes sense because it allows him to rest more and stay out of planes.
The Warriors need Curry to have two healthy ankles once the playoffs start. There's no reason to try bringing him back too soon or making him travel if he doesn't have to.
Golden State still has three All-Stars on its roster to pick up some of the slack with Curry out. He can afford to take his time getting healthy.
