During the championship celebration of the Golden State Warriors last June in downtown Oakland, team owner Joe Lacob promised a gift to their fans that the team will cover all the costs of the victory parade, and not burden their taxpayers with any additional expenses.

Almost three months after the eventful day, the Dubs have apparently not paid their dues yet, and still owe the city of Oakland its full amount, according to Matthias Gafni of The Mercury News. The costs have totaled to $816,000 and $244,000 from their parade back in 2015.

“But now, almost three months after the blue-and-gold confetti has been swept up and Steph Curry and Kevin Durant have hung up their sneakers for offseason vacations, the team has not paid a cent for the festivities, which added up to almost $816,000, according to the city. The city is also asking the team to pick up $244,000 in costs from the 2015 championship parade, according to city officials and an invoice obtained by the East Bay Times.”
It’s interesting to find out what is causing the delay for them to pay it off, especially with the deadline set back in August 18. It also gives the franchise negative publicity should it be true, as their team owner himself, gave his word about taking care of all the expenses.
The Warriors have yet to give a statement about the issue, but it’s expected that they’ll release one soon, and also address how they plan to resolve it.
