Despite having been with the Indiana Pacers for only a single season, it is safe to say that Victor Oladipo has already made his mark on the team. So much so, that he has recently been hailed as the best athlete in the entire city of Indianapolis.
The IndyStar gave the honor to Oladipo as the “Best Current Indy Athlete” in the city, which is quite an achievement, all things considered.
After being drafted second overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2013 NBA Draft, Oladipo would spend the first three seasons of his career with the organization. In 2016, the 6-foot-4 combo guard was traded by the Magic to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of the deal that sent Serge Ibaka to Orlando.
Article Continues BelowOladipo's time with the Thunder was short-lived, as he was dealt yet again after just one season with the squad. Last summer, OKC traded Oladipo to the Indiana Pacers along with Domantas Sabonis (who also happened to be included in the aforementioned Magic-Thunder deal) in exchange for Paul George.
It was in Indiana where Oladipo finally shined and blossomed to be the All-Star caliber player that he is today. Last season, the 26-year-old produced career best numbers in the scoring department (23.1 points per game), field goal percentage (47.7%), three-pointers (2.1), rebounds (5.2), assists (4.3), steals (2.4), and blocks (0.8). He also led his team to the Playoffs, wherein they would fall in the first round at the hands of eventual finalists the Cleveland Cavaliers.
To say that Oladipo has transitioned well as the number one option for the Pacers would be a huge understatement. The people of Indianapolis are obviously in agreement.
